Tillbaka i Vuda marin för julfirande. Nu är det ingen cyklonvarning så vi kan ligga i yttre bassängen. Såååå mycket enklare med flytbryggor så vi slipper ta hänsyn till låg- och högvatten. Alltid samma avstånd till bryggan från båten och endast ett lite större kliv iland eller ombord. Behöver inte använda jollen och klättra på stegar.
Back in Vuda marina for Christmas celebrations. Now there is no cyclone warning so we can lie in the outer basin. Sooooo much easier with floating docks so we don’t have to take low and high tides into account. Always the same distance to the jetty from the boat and only a slightly larger step ashore or on board. No need to use the dinghy and climb ladders.
Måste erkänna att det är lite svårt att känna julstämning här i värmen o i båten. Vi har ett fåtal tomtar utplacerade men stämningen o känslan uteblir. Stearinljusen smälter och ljusslingorna rostar av saltvattnet. Vi försöker ändå göra det bästa av det och på julafton går vi till marinarestaurangen, ”Boatshed”, där vi blir serverade en jultallrik med underbart god mat. Självklart är det inte svensk julmat men det är både lamm, någon form av skinka, jätteräkor och fisk plus en massa grönsaker. Gott är det i alla fall! Samtidigt är det en kör som går runt och sjunger julsånger i hela marinaområdet och på restaurangen. Marinanapersonalen kommer också till oss med en ”Christmascake” i choklad. Såå underbart! Det har vi aldrig varit med om tidigare.
I have to admit that it is a little difficult to feel the Christmas spirit here in the heat and on the boat. We have a few elves deployed, but the atmosphere and feeling is missing. The candles melt and the light strings rust from the salt water. We still try to make the best of it and on Christmas Eve we go to the marina restaurant, ”Boatshed”, where we are served a Christmas plate of wonderfully good food. Of course it’s not Swedish Christmas food, but it’s both lamb, some kind of ham, giant prawns and fish plus a lot of vegetables. It’s good anyway! At the same time, there is a choir that goes around singing Christmas carols throughout the marina area and in the restaurant. The marinana staff also comes to us with a chocolate ”Christmascake”. So wonderful! We have never experienced that before.
Idag är det juldagen och den dag de flesta i världen firar jul. Även här. Jan och jag firar även 4 år tillsammans. Till frukost blir det chokladkakan från igår och nu på eftermiddagen sätter vi oss framme på däck med en flaska ”bubbel” för att fira oss. Vi har firat på detta sätt alla våra årsdagar tillsammans så det har blivit en tradition. Var vi än befinner oss i världen. Gran Canaria, Honduras, Panama och nu Fiji.
Today is Christmas Day and the day most people in the world celebrate Christmas. Also here. Jan and I are also celebrating 4 years together. For breakfast there will be the chocolate cake from yesterday and this afternoon we sit out front on the deck with a bottle of ”bubble” to celebrate. We have celebrated this way all our anniversaries together so it has become a tradition. Wherever we are in the world. Gran Canaria, Honduras, Panama and now Fiji.
Nu är det kväll och vi går till den närliggande resorten, First landing. Där har de en stor och lyxig buffé. Flera stora bord med mängder av skaldjur, lamm, biff och skinka. Och en massa olika goda sallader! Plus efterrätter i mängder. Maten är underbart god och vi äter så vi nästan spricker. Det är också en fantastisk dansuppvisning, denna gång endast med män. Stämningen är hög och alla ser ut att njuta.
Now it is evening and we go to the nearby resort, First landing. There they have a large and luxurious buffet. Several large tables with quantities of seafood, lamb, steak and ham. And a lot of different good salads! Plus desserts in abundance. The food is wonderfully good and we eat until we almost burst. There is also a fantastic dance performance, this time only with men. The mood is high and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.
Boxingday, för oss annandag jul och idag lyxar vi till det med poolhäng på resorten First Landing. När vi ligger i marinan har vi ingen möjlighet att bada i havet, vilket vi är oerhört bortskämda med så att få några timmar vid en poolkant känns oerhört skönt! Här pratar vi med ett par från Nya Zeeland som är mäkta imponerade och intresserade av vår segling. Jag beställer också in ett glas vitt vin så det blir extra festligt. Det känns som en bra dag när vi är tillbaka i båten.
Boxingday, for us the second day of Christmas and today we’re luxuriating in it with a pool hangout at the First Landing resort. When we are in the marina, we don’t have the opportunity to swim in the sea, which we are extremely spoiled for, so getting a few hours at the edge of the pool feels extremely nice! Here we talk to a couple from New Zealand who are very impressed and interested in our sailing. I also order a glass of white wine to make it extra festive. It feels like a good day when we are back in the boat.
Dags för proviantering igen. Det blir en resa in till närmsta byn Lautoka. Jans kompis Stu kommer ikväll och vi skall ut, åtminstone ett par dagar, till en ankring. Massa grönsaker köps in på marknaden och vi får även köpt en härlig färsk tonfisk. Det blir mycket jobb med att filéa och rensa men det gör inget. Kyckling både som filé, klubbor och färs står också på inköpslistan. Liksom vin och öl. Vi vet ännu inte om vi kommer vara ute på ankring på nyårsafton eller inte. Så mat som jag kan laga en trerätters meny av behöver finnas i båten. Nu har vi handlat färdigt och det är dags att ta en taxi till båten och stuva in allting.
Time for provisions again. It will be a journey into the nearest village Lautoka. Jan’s friend Stu is coming tonight and we are going out, at least for a couple of days, to an anchorage. Lots of vegetables are bought at the market and we also get to buy some lovely fresh tuna. It will be a lot of work with filleting and cleaning, but it doesn’t matter. Chicken both as fillets, meatballs and minced meat are also on the shopping list. Like wine and beer. We do not yet know if we will be out at anchor on New Year’s Eve or not. Food that I can cook a three-course menu from needs to be in the boat. Now we have finished shopping and it is time to take a taxi to the boat and stow everything.
Tyvärr upptäcker vi att vår ena kyl, den som reparerades, slutat fungera igen. Det gör förvaring av kylvaror och grönsaker i princip hopplöst. Nu när vi har tillgång till mejerivaror har vi en del i båten och det fyller i stort sett den ena kylen. Tyvärr är det så att alla grönsaker och frukt utom potatis, lök och vitlök också måste ner i kylen för att de skall hålla mer än två dagar. Och nu är det en omöjlighet. Jag rensar, städar och packar ner ordentligt i den lilla kyl vi har kvar så att åtminstone några grönsaker får plats. För mig är kyl och frys bland det viktigaste vi har ombord så detta tar hårt på mitt humör. Känner mig nedstämd och uppgiven. Speciellt nu när vi ligger fast här i en marina i Fiji utan att kunna se och upptäcka nya platser dessutom. Maten är den glädje vi har och speciellt middagen lägger jag ner mycket kärlek i. Men utan färska grönsaker är det svårt. Nu är det bara att ”gilla läget”, acceptera och försöka laga mat på det vi har.
Unfortunately, we discover that our one refrigerator, the one that was repaired, has stopped working again. This makes storing refrigerated goods and vegetables basically hopeless. Now that we have access to dairy products, we have some in the boat and it pretty much fills one fridge. Unfortunately, all vegetables and fruit except potatoes, onions and garlic also have to be refrigerated in order for them to last more than two days. And now it is an impossibility. I clear, clean and pack properly in the small fridge we have left so that at least some vegetables can fit. For me, the fridge and freezer are among the most important things we have on board, so this takes a toll on my mood. I feel depressed and dejected. Especially now that we are stuck here in a marina in Fiji without being able to see and discover new places as well. Food is the joy we have and especially dinner I put a lot of love into. But without fresh vegetables it is difficult. Now it’s just a matter of ”liking the situation”, accepting and trying to cook with what we have.
Stu kom igår och nu hjälper marinapersonalen oss med att lämna marinan. Vårt mål är, än en gång, Muscet Cove. Det är en lagom resa dit ut om vi bara skall vara ute några dagar. Det ser ut att bli blåsigt till nyårsafton så vi stannar nog ute bara två nätter. Det är underbart skönt att komma ut från hamnen igen. Det är här ute jag vill vara och inte i marinan. Vi har slappa dagar här med mycket bad, utflykter med jollen och bbq inne vid baren där det finns färdiga elektriska grillplatser. Alla tre njuter och det är såhär vi skall ha det.
Stu arrived yesterday and now the marina staff is helping us leave the marina. Our destination is, once again, Muscet Cove. It’s a reasonable trip out there if we’re only going to be out for a few days. It looks like it’s going to be windy for New Year’s Eve so we’ll probably only be out for two nights. It’s wonderful to get out of the harbor again. I want to be out here and not in the marina. We have relaxed days here with lots of swimming, excursions with the dinghy and bbq inside the bar where there are ready-made electric grills. All three are enjoying themselves and this is how we should have it.
Men…det är blåsigt väder på ingång och för några lockar en nyårsmiddag på ”Boatshed” med en lyxig nyårstallrik. Så vi beslutar oss för att åka in igen efter två härliga dagar.
But…windy weather is coming and for some, a New Year’s dinner at the ”Boatshed” with a luxurious New Year’s plate beckons. So we decide to go back in after two lovely days.
Woow! Vi fick äntligen en fisk! En vacker Wahoo på 2-3 kilon. Såååå lyxigt. Vi har inte haft någon större fiskelycka på väldigt länge så detta är jättekul! Extra kul att det hände nu när vi har Stu ombord. Fisken rensas och blir serverad stekt med salt, peppar, citron och smält smör. Åh vad gott det är!
Woah! We finally caught a fish! A beautiful Wahoo of 2-3 kilos. Sooooo luxurious. We haven’t had any great fishing luck in a very long time so this is great fun! Extra fun that it happened now that we have Stu on board. The fish is cleaned and served fried with salt, pepper, lemon and melted butter. Oh how good it is!
Nyårsafton! Tänk att ännu ett år har passerat. Vi har varit i Stilla Havet hela detta år utan att flyga hem under sommaren som vi gjort de förra två somrarna efter att vi lämnade Sverige med Vilja sommaren 2022. Boatshed levererar även denna gång. Det är en fisk- och skaldjurstallrik med fantastisk god och lyxig mat. Vi har sällskap av Yanina och Alan från Screensaver plus ett par till. Redan klockan 22.00 startar de fyrverkeriet och vid 23.00 är vi tillbaka i båten. Mätta och trötta, men vi håller oss vakna till midnatt. Då är det mer fyrverkeri och vi skålar…i vatten 😄
New Year’s Eve! Think that another year has passed. We have been in the Pacific all this year without flying home during the summer as we did the last two summers after we left Sweden with Vilja in the summer of 2022. Boatshed delivers this time as well. It is a fish and shellfish plate with fantastically good and luxurious food. We are joined by Yanina and Alan from Screensaver plus a couple more. Already at 10 p.m. they start the fireworks and at 11 p.m. we are back in the boat. Full and tired, but we stay awake until midnight. Then there are more fireworks and we toast…in water 😄
