Vi ropar på vhf:en efter en vattentaxi som strax kommer och hämtar oss. Väl iland möts vi av mängder av sjölejon och galapagosleguaner. De finns verkligen precis överallt! Simmande i vattnet, på bänkar, trappor, i båtar, stigarna vi går på och på bryggorna. De är totalt orädda för oss människor och vet att vi inte gör dem illa. Här är det djuren som får ta plats och vi får inrätta oss efter dem. Sjölejonen hörs högt och tydligt när de ropar och flera är aktiva i vattnet. Men många ligger och slöar i skuggan. Ett sjölejon vi ser gör allt vad det kan för att ta död på en blåsfisk som blåst upp sig till en boll, stor som en tennisboll.
We call on the VHF for a water taxi that will come and pick us up soon. Once ashore, we are met by multitudes of sea lions and Galapagos iguanas. They really are everywhere! Swimming in the water, on benches, stairs, in boats, the paths we walk on and on the docks. They are totally unafraid of us humans and know that we do them no harm. Here, it is the animals who get to take their place and we get to arrange ourselves after them. The sea lions are heard loud and clear when they call and several are active in the water. But many are lazing in the shade. A sea lion we see is doing everything it can to kill a blowfish that has blown itself up into a ball, the size of a tennis ball.

Leguanerna är havsleguaner endemiska för Galapagos, precis som de flesta djur här. De är duktiga simmare och lever på, framförallt, alger som de hittar i havet. När de är på land ligger de mest och slöar mitt framför fötterna på oss. Så det gäller att se var vi sätter fötterna.
The iguanas are marine iguanas endemic to the Galapagos, just like most of the animals here. They are good swimmers and live on, above all, algae that they find in the sea. When they are on land, they mostly lie down and laze right in front of our feet. So we have to see where we put our feet.

Hamnen ligger en bit bort från stan och vi går mot den lilla byn. Landskapet är svart av lava men med mycket grönska. Isabella skall vara ca 1 miljon år gammal så här har grönskan lagt sig, i alla fall på den södra sidan av ön dit regnet kommer. Det finns fem vulkaner på ön, alla mer eller mindre aktiva. Senaste utbrottet var 2021. Byn är sömnig på ett charmigt sätt med gator av sand och ett flertal restauranger och häftiga barer längs med stranden. Här tar vi en drink i solnedgången och njuter av atmosfären.
The port is a bit away from the town and we walk towards the small village. The landscape is black with lava but with lots of greenery. Isabella is supposed to be about 1 million years old, so this is where the greenery has settled, at least on the southern side of the island where the rain comes. There are five volcanoes on the island, all more or less active. The last eruption was in 2021. The village is sleepy in a charming way with streets of sand and several restaurants and cool bars along the beach. Here we have a drink at sunset and enjoy the atmosphere.

Sitter ombord på Vilja helt ensam och njuter. Det är kul med vänner ombord men det är också trångt. Och att få egentid är verkligen uppskattat och välbehövligt. Lite nagelvård, dusch, lyssna på bok mm mm. Underbart! Jag njuter!
Sitting on board Vilja all alone and enjoying. It’s fun with friends on board, but it’s also crowded. And getting alone time is really appreciated and much needed. A little nail care, shower, listen to a book, etc. Wonderfully! I enjoy!
Under tiden är Jan, Marie och Niklas på utflykt. De åker till något som kallas Túneles. Ett naturligt labyrintsystem i lava som ser ut som tunnlar. Vattnet är riktigt klart och de får simma med stora sköldpaddor. Under snorklingen ser de också sjöhästar och unika Galapagos hajar som kan ligga stilla på botten och vila utan att vara i ständig rörelse, vilket de flesta hajar behöver. En riktigt bra utflykt om man gillar att snorkla.
Meanwhile, Jan, Marie and Niklas are on an excursion. They go to something called Túneles. A natural lava labyrinth system that looks like tunnels. The water is really clear and they get to swim with big turtles. While snorkeling, they also see seahorses and unique Galapagos sharks that can lie still on the bottom and rest without being in constant motion, which most sharks need. A really good excursion if you like snorkeling.

Ny dag och ny utflykt, endast halvdag idag. Vi åker in till hamnen och när vi väntar på båt och guide får vi underhållning av en jättesöt liten pingvin som simmar runt i hamnen. Båten tar oss till lavaön Tintoreras. På vägen dit gör vi stopp där vi kommer helt i närheten av flera pingviner. Åååh, vad söta pingvinerna är. Flera står i givakt och bryr sig inte det minsta om att vi är alldeles i närheten. Några andra simmar runt båten.
New day and new excursion, only half day today. We go into the harbor and while we wait for the boat and guide we are entertained by a very cute little guinea pig that swims around the harbor. The boat takes us to the lava island of Tintoreras. On the way there, we make a stop where we come very close to several penguins. Oh, how cute the penguins are. Several are standing guard and don’t care in the least that we are very close. A few others swim around the boat.

Strax därefter kommer vi till höjdpunkten, Bluefooted Boobies! Det är en hel liten koloni av sjöfågeln ”Blåfotade sulor”. Färgen på fötterna får de av sillen de äter. Som i sin tur äter en speciell sorts alger som ger färgen. Turen avslutas med en vandring där vi ser mängder av leguaner som bygger bon att lägga sina ägg i. Deras äggläggningsperiod har precis startat så vi har tur som kommer hit innan de stänger ön för besök.
Soon after, we come to the highlight, the Bluefooted Boobies! There is a whole small colony of the seabird ”Blue-footed soles”. The color of their feet they get from the herring they eat. Which in turn eats a special kind of algae that gives the color. The tour ends with a hike where we see loads of iguanas building nests to lay their eggs in. Their egg laying period has just started so we are lucky to get here before they close the island to visitors.

Dagarna på Isabella har tagit slut och nu seglar vi mot nästa ö – Floreana. En liten ö med endast 200 invånare. Solen skiner, havet är djupblått och himmelen ljusblå med enstaka vita moln

Wow vad mycket jobb vi gör…Marie och Niklas jobbar verkligen på och jag o Jan fortsätter som tidigare. Vi ligger före schemat med vad som måste bli gjort. Eldragningar, Marie upp i masten, proviantering, fumigation mm är gjord. Det är hela tiden nya arbeten och förberedelser på gång.

Idag, lördag, är det sjösättning. Alltid lite pirrigt i en båtägares liv när båten skall i vattnet igen. Att få i Vilja blir svårare än de tänkt sig. Rampen har lite för lite lutning för fordonet som kör. Vi blir ordentligt tippade akterut och skall backa ut. Men det går inte. Till sist får fordonet köra ända ner nästan under vattnet så att vi kommer ut på tillräckligt djupt vatten och plötsligt är vi loss! Härligt med vatten under oss igen. Vi åker in till kaj för natten och skall checka ut imorgon. Vi väntar också på alla certifikat vi behöver för att komma in till Galapagos
Today, Saturday, is the launch. Always a little nervous in a boat owner’s life when the boat has to go back into the water. Getting Vilja in will be more difficult than they thought. The ramp has a little too little slope for the vehicle driving. We are properly tipped aft and have to back out. But it doesn’t work. Finally, the vehicle has to drive all the way down almost underwater so that we come out in deep enough water and suddenly we are free! Lovely with water under us again. We go into the quay for the night and will check out tomorrow. We are also waiting for all the certificates we need to enter the Galapagos

Det blir lite antiklimax när våra papper kommer med fel namn på kaptenen och han som skrivit dem är i kyrkan och inte vill ta tag i problemet. Dessutom får vi problem på immigration. Men med otrolig hjälp av Patricia på hamnkontoret löser sig allt. Detta gör iofs att vi inte kommer iväg som planerat utan det blir ett dygn till i hamnen. Men imorgon räknar vi med att åka tidigt. Nu väntar ca tio dygn till sjöss. Stämningen ombord är bra och lugn men lite pirrigt är det att ge sig ut på en långsegling igen.

Klockan 08.15, måndag, kastar vi loss! Ut på Stilla Havet, ut på äventyr! Första dygnet blir troligen ganska skumpigt sedan väntar stiltje. Det är ju Stilla Havet och det skall leva upp till sitt namn, har vi hört.

Det är en härlig segling. Vinden in snett akterifrån nu så det är slör som oftast är mycket behaglig. Fiskesnörerna åker snabbt ut och det dröjer inte länge innan det rasslar till ordentligt. Det är en stor en. Linan åker ut längre och längre och längre och det är ingen chans att bromsa. Att rulla in är stört omöjligt. Plötsligt släpper den och tar fiskedraget med sig. När vi rullat in ser vi att metallsnöret längst ner gått av. Den hade varit så stor så vi inte ens klarat av att bärga upp ombord. Det är bara att hoppas på ny fiskelycka och förhoppningsvis en lite mindre nästa gång.
It’s a lovely sail. The wind is slanting in from the stern now so it’s a breeze which is usually very pleasant. The fishing lines go out quickly and it doesn’t take long before it rattles properly. It’s a big one. The line goes out further and further and further and there is no chance to brake. Rolling in is next to impossible. Suddenly it lets go and takes the fishing line with it. When we rolled in, we saw that the metal cord at the bottom had come off. It had been so big that we hadn’t even managed to get it on board. We can only hope for new fishing luck and hopefully a little less next time.

Vi styr mot SO nu. Först skall vi runda en udde i Panama och vi vill styra undan åtminstone en del av ett stiltjebälte som ligger stilla på samma plats. När vi rundat det kommer vi styra mer rakt mot Galapagos.
We are heading SE now. First, we will round a cape in Panama and we want to steer clear of at least part of a stiltje belt that is stationary in the same place. Once we have rounded it, we will steer more directly towards the Galapagos.

Oj vad det gungar… Första dygnet var perfekt. Vi seglade i snitt nästan 8 knop o kom 175nm från Vista mar. Men nu är vi i stiltje…Inte bara stiltje utan en massa vågor dessutom. Vilja gungar fram och tillbaka helt hysteriskt. Vi har tagit ner alla segel och vi har påbörjat våra nattskift. Det är mörkt, kolsvart ute. Och Vilja guppar fram och tillbaka. Lösa saker i båten skramlar, både inne i skåp och utanför. Hängande väskor slår mot skott (väggar) och att röra sig är nästan omöjligt. Självklart svårt att sova för de som ligger inne i båten. Jan kom precis ut. Förpiken är som en bastu i värmen, utan någon som helst genomströmning av vind. Det är inte kul här ute nu. Varmt o med en Vilja som gungar och gungar. Från sida till sida. Om och om igen. Försökte precis gå in i båten men ramlade omkull pga hur Vilja rör sig. Vi visste att vi skulle/kunde komma in i ett stiltjebälte andra dagen och nu är vi här. Nu får vi se hur vi hanterar det. Starta motor för att komma ur det eller ligga o guppa några dagar. Vi får ta ett beslut imorgon bitti. Om vi inte gör det redan inatt.
Oh how it swings… The first day was perfect. We sailed an average of almost 8 knots and came 175 nm from Vista mar. But now we are in silence… Not just silence but a lot of waves as well. Vilja rocks back and forth completely hysterically. We have taken down all the sails and we have started our night shifts. It’s dark, pitch black outside. And Vilja sways back and forth. Loose things in the boat rattle, both inside cupboards and outside. Hanging bags hit bulkheads (walls) and moving is almost impossible. Obviously difficult to sleep for those inside the boat. Jan just came out. The front girl is like a sauna in the heat, without any flow of wind. It’s not fun out here right now. Warm and with a Will that swings and swings. From page to page. Over and over again. Just tried to get into the boat but fell over because of the way Vilja moves. We knew we would/could get into a lull belt the second day and now here we are. Now we’ll see how we handle it. Start the engine to get out of it or lie down and bob for a few days. We have to make a decision tomorrow morning. If we don’t do it already tonight.

Strömmen skjuter oss också framåt. Vi bestämmer oss för att stänga av motorn och ligga och driva en stund. Det är underbart att bada i det svalkande klara vattnet på 3000 meters djup. Marie och jag är i länge medan Jan och Niklas gör rent vattenlinjen. Även Marie o jag skrubbar i aktern. Det har inte satt sig något men vi vill förebygga så vi förhoppningsvis inte får problem när vi kommer in i Galapagos vatten. Det känns helt ljuvligt att simma i havet efter en veckas slit uppe på land. Vi fascineras av den otroligt blå färgen på havet.
Efter en timme startar vi motorn igen. Rena och fräscha och fria från gammalt svett.

Timmarna går och det är nya nattpass. Vi går tyvärr fortfarande för motor så vi har inte det tysta lugnet när vi är ett med havet och mörkret. Men det är ändå rofyllt. Nattpassen är härliga och vi njuter allihop av lite ensamtid.
The hours pass and there are new night shifts. Unfortunately we still go by motor so we don’t have the quiet peace when we are one with the sea and the darkness. But it’s still peaceful. The night shifts are lovely and we all enjoy some alone time.
Äntligen är seglen uppe igen! Efter nästan tre dygn med stiltje där vi växlat mellan motor, att driva omkring och att försöka segla så har vi full segelsättning. Just nu styr vi lite norr om Galapagos i dryga sex knop. Fortsätter vi såhär så är vi framme på tisdag. Åtta dagar skulle det betyda. Totala sträckan är ca 850nm och idag passerar vi halva sträckan. Självklart firas det med ett glas rom. Stämningen ombord är jättebra.
Finally the sails are up again! After almost three days of stilts where we alternated between the engine, drifting around and trying to sail, we have fully set sail. Right now we are steering a little north of the Galapagos at just over six knots. If we continue like this, we will arrive on Tuesday. Eight days it would mean. The total distance is about 850nm and today we pass half the distance. Of course, it is celebrated with a glass of rum. The atmosphere on board is great.

Vi skall ha en kall öl till lunch och de plockas fram ur frysen. Två av dem är kalla och goda men en har frusit till is. Det blir att hitta en möjlighet att komma åt isen. Först konservöppnare, men det räcker inte så då kommer metallsaxen fram. Till sist får jag klämt ut en helt frusen ölisbit. Hur den smakar? Det är definitivt inte gott. Totalt avslaget ölvatten.
We will have a cold beer for lunch and they will be taken out of the freezer. Two of them are cold and good but one has frozen into ice. It will be finding an opportunity to access the ice. First can opener, but that’s not enough so then the metal scissors come out. Finally, I squeeze out a completely frozen piece of beer ice. How does it taste? It’s definitely not good. Total rejected beer water.

Vi omringas plötsligt av ett stort stim av stora delfiner. De följer troligen ett fiskstim för ovan vattnet flyger även många fåglar som dyker ner för att få tag på mat. Delfinerna kommer upp till ytan och blåser ut luft för att sedan dyka ner igen. Några av delfinerna gör eleganta hopp långt upp i luften. Tyvärr fångar vi inga på bild. De är mer intresserade av fiskarna än av oss och Vilja denna gång. Men vilken lycka som strömmar genom kroppen varje gång vi mötet dem.
We are suddenly surrounded by a large shoal of large dolphins. They are probably following a school of fish because there are also many birds flying above the water that dive down to get food. The dolphins come to the surface and blow air and then dive back down. Some of the dolphins make elegant jumps high into the air. Unfortunately, we don’t capture any in the picture. They are more interested in the fishermen than in us and Vilja this time. But what happiness flows through the body every time we meet them.
Det är så vackert här ute på havet. Djupblå nästan orealistik färg på det oändliga havet. Djupblått och klart. Nyanserna av blått i hav, himmel och moln är fantastiska. Långt långt borta finns land…men det är flera dygns segling bort så vi är verkligen in the middle of nowhere. För om oss på styrbords sida tornar mörka moln upp sig. Skall vi komma in i ett oväder? Det blir vad det blir. Just nu skiner solen.
It is so beautiful out here at sea. Deep blue almost unreal color of the endless sea. Deep blue and clear. The shades of blue in the sea, sky and clouds are amazing. Far, far away there is land…but it is several days’ sailing away so we are really in the middle of nowhere. Because around us on the starboard side, dark clouds are towering. Shall we enter a storm? It will be what it will be. Right now the sun is shining.

Solnedgångarna här ute är magiska. Färgskiftningar som börjar med silver. Sedan kommer mer och mer gyllene kulörer. Det blir till riktigt guld och därefter brandgult och orange. Molnen får som en eldkant runt sig när solen närmar sig horisonten. Det stora eldklotet som sakta sakta försvinner bakom horisonten. Därefter kommer en ljusshow i gyllene kulörer som övergår i rosa, cerice och till sist olika toner av lila och purpur. Vilken ynnest det är att få uppleva detta.
The sunsets out here are magical. Color changes starting with silver. Then come more and more golden colours. It turns into real gold and then fiery yellow and orange. The clouds get like a rim of fire around them as the sun approaches the horizon. The big ball of fire slowly disappearing behind the horizon. Then comes a light show in golden colors that turn into pink, cerise and finally various tones of purple and purple. What a blessing it is to experience this.
Nattvakt igen…jag älskar dem. Det är så otroligt rofyllt att vara ett med naturen, havet och mörkret. Fast jag är inte helt ensam. På en av våra solcellpaneler har en fågel hittat ett ställe att vila sina trötta vingar. Hon accepterar att jag kommer väldigt nära även om hon då börjar se sig lite vakande runt omkring. Hon sitter i mörkret och spejar framåt ut mot öppet hav. Gissar att hennes mörkerseende är bättre än min. Tänk vad en liten havsfågel kan ge för känslor. Jag känner samhörighet här långt ute på havet. Det är ett annat liv som delar upplevelsen här och nu med mig. En fascinerande känsla. Kommer på mig själv med att jag sitter här och pratar högt med pippifågeln. Skrattar lite åt mig själv och fortsätter prata. Det är sååå befriande.
Nightwatch again…I love them. It is so incredibly peaceful to be one with nature, the sea and the dark. But I’m not completely alone. On one of our solar panels, a bird has found a place to rest its tired wings. She accepts that I get very close, even if she then starts to look a little wary around. She sits in the dark and looks ahead towards the open sea. Guess her night vision is better than mine. Think what emotions a small seabird can give. I feel a sense of belonging here far out at sea. It is another life that shares the experience here and now with me. A fascinating feeling. I find myself sitting here talking loudly to the Pippibird. Laughing a little at myself and continuing to talk. It’s so liberating.

Bakom oss är det ljus från något som måste vara en båt. Tittar på plotter men ingen signal från en annan båt syns. Vi får fortsätta hålla utkik under natten. Stilla havet är stort, otroligt stort, så vi borde inte komma så nära någon annan båt. Så det är nästan lite spännande att vi nu har en i sikte. Gissar att det är ett kryssningsfartyg som lämnat fastlandet Ecuador, med kurs mot Galapagos. Vi seglar längre söderut pga vinden men ett kryssningsfartyg med starka motorer kan gå rakt mot mål

Idag följer vi segelbåten Scout på AIS. En båt vi mötte i Cartagena som även de är på väg mot Galapagos nu. Efter några timmar ser vi Scout tydligt. De kommer närmre och närmre. ”Vilja,Vilja,Vilja” hör vi på vår vhf. Det blir ett härligt samtal på vhf långt ute till havs. Ganska otroligt att vi möts fem dygn ute på havet från Panama. Ännu mer otroligt är det när en fiskebåt plötsligt dyker upp. Den går mitt emellan oss och Scout som t o m måste väja. Hur stor är sannolikheten för det med 400 nm. till närmsta land. Utanför farled.
Today we follow the sailboat Scout on AIS. A boat we met in Cartagena that they too are on their way to the Galapagos now. After a few hours we see Scout clearly. Det är en regnig och grå dag. Allt går i olika nyanser av grått runt omkring oss och dynorna vi sitter på är våta. Som tur är så är det endast duggregn så vi kan fortfarande sitta ute i sittbrunnen. Lite skönt är det ändå att det är svalare. Nästa dag fortsätter med grått och regn. Har tappat räkningen på hur många dagar vi varit ute och vilken veckodag det är. Men vi har i alla fall lite vind idag och har kunnat segla hela dagen. Det är så fridfullt att slippa motorns ljud. Speciellt på nattvakterna.
It is a rainy and gray day. Everything goes in different shades of gray around us and the cushions we sit on are wet. Luckily it’s only drizzling so we can still sit outside in the cockpit. It’s still a bit nice that it’s cooler. The next day continues with gray and rain. I’ve lost count of how many days we’ve been out and what day of the week it is. But at least we have some wind today and have been able to sail all day. It is so peaceful to avoid the sound of the engine. Especially on the night shifts.

Vi närmar oss ekvatorn sakta men säkert. Nu mitt i natten är vi på grad N 0.47°, alltså mindre än en grad från ekvatorn. Det känns nästan overkligt att vi korsar med egen båt. Och strax efter ekvatorn kommer vi fram till Galapagos. Som det ser ut nu är vi framme om ca två dygn, onsdag morgon.
We are approaching the equator slowly but surely. Now in the middle of the night we are at degree N 0.47°, so less than one degree from the equator. It almost feels surreal that we are crossing with our own boat. And just after the equator we arrive at the Galapagos. As it looks now, we will arrive in about two days, Wednesday morning.
Just nu är det lite smolk i paradiset. I två hela dagar har vi hållit på att försöka sanera från bugs i maten och i akterkojen. Vi har tömt hela akterkojen på i princip allt. Och det är mycket där…totalt proppfullt. Mat överallt i varenda litet skrymsle. Vilket också är bra gömställen för de här pyttesmå rackarna. De gömmer sig i skarvar, veck och mellan påsar som ligger ihop. De finns inne i påsar med linser, havregryn och pasta mm. De första vi hittade var inne i påsar ned gröna linser så där är sannolikt boven. Att vi fick med oss dem från affären. Vi känner oss helt maktlösa nu. Flera sprayflaskor med giftigt insektsmedel har använts och vi tvättar all mat i sina förpackningar i saltvatten. Allt vi hittar som det kryper om slänger vi självklart och ännu mycket mera mat. Stora fiskar runt båten är lyckliga för all mat vi slänger ut och när jag precis gick i för att bada kom fiskarna fram då de trodde de skulle få mera mat. Nu vacuumförpackar vi allt som inte redan är vacuumförpackat. Tyvärr räcker inte vår plast så vi planerar att åka in till Panama City snart igen. Vi måste få bukt med detta. Tur att vi har en ”fumigation” av hela båten framför oss. Såg med skräck fram emot den tidigare men nu är det med glädje.
Right now it’s a little smolk in paradise. For two whole days we have been trying to clean up bugs in the food and in the aft berth. We have emptied the entire aft berth of basically everything. And there’s a lot there…totally crammed. Food everywhere in every nook and cranny. Which are also good hiding places for these tiny rascals. They hide in seams, folds and between bags that are put together. They,som, 4 are found in bags with lentils, oatmeal and pasta etc. The first ones we found were inside bags of green lentils, so that’s probably the culprit. That we brought them with us from the store. We feel completely powerless right nowù. Several spray bottles of toxic insecticide have been used and we wash all food in its packaging in salt water. We naturally throw away everything we find crawling around, and even more food. Big fish around the boat are happy for all the food we throw out and when I just went in to swim the fish came forward thinking they would get more food. Now we vacuum pack everything that is not already vacuum packed. Unfortunately our plastic is not enough so we plan to go into Panama City again soon. We have to get over this. Lucky that we have a ”fumigation” of the whole boat in front of us. Looked forward to it with dread before, but now it’s with joy.

Idag lämnar vi Isla San José, efter flera dagars hårt jobb med insekterna, och åker tillbaka mot Isla Mogo Mogo. Total motvind tyvärr så vi går för motor. Fiskelinan är ute i hopp om en fisk. Det var längesedan vi fångade en fisk nu o det saknas verkligen i kosten. När vi senare kommer lämna mot Galapagos och därefter Marquesas hoppas vi på mycket fisk. Tonfisk och Mahi Mahi står högst på önskelistan.
Today we leave Isla San José, after several days of hard work with the insects, and head back towards Isla Mogo Mogo. Total headwind unfortunately so we go by engine. The fishing line is out hoping for a fish. It’s been a long time since we caught a fish now and it’s really missing in the diet. When we later leave for the Galapagos and then the Marquesas, we hope for a lot of fish. Tuna and Mahi Mahi are at the top of the wish list.

Vi trivs här. Vattnet är kristallklart, vyn mot stranden fantastisk och solnedgångarna slående vackra. Skönt att ha några dagar med sol och bad innan allt jobb som väntar oss. Men allt har sitt slut och vi behöver åka tillbaka till Panama City. Det blir i alla fall två härliga heldagar här på MogoMogo.
We enjoy it here. The water is crystal clear, the view towards the beach fantastic and the sunsets strikingly beautiful. Nice to have a few days of sun and swimming before all the work that awaits us. But everything has an end and we need to go back to Panama City. In any case, it will be two wonderful full days here at MogoMogo.

Det är söndag och vi seglar tillbaka mot Panama City. Vi har en hel del att ordna och att proviantera som vi tror är lättast där. Det kommer bara bli ca tre dagar för sedan seglar vi vidare västerut mot Costa Rica. Vi lägger oss på City-sidan där vi låg senast vi var här. Det är högvatten och knappt någon vind när vi kommer fram. Redan idag åker vi iväg för att försöka få tag på plast till vacuummaskinen. Taxiresan tar oss till Albrook center. Vi går in i flera affärer utan resultat. Suck, vi behöver verkligen plast för att säkra all mat. Men vi provianterar för Pacific. Det kommer vi göra varje dag nu, köper så mycket vi orkar bära. Torrmat, konserver, städartiklar och vin. Jan ser ut som en packåsna med flera tunga ryggsäckar.
It is Sunday and we are sailing back towards Panama City. We have a lot to arrange and to stock up which we think is easiest there. It will only be about three days before we sail further west towards Costa Rica. We lay down on the City side where we lay the last time we were here. It is high tide and hardly any wind when we arrive. Already today we are leaving to try to get hold of plastic for the vacuum machine. The taxi journey takes us to Albrook centre. We enter several trades with no results. Sigh, we really need plastic to secure all food. But we provision for the Pacific. We will do that every day now, buying as much as we can carry. Dry food, canned food, cleaning supplies and wine. Jan looks like a pack donkey with several heavy backpacks.

Vi har fullt upp att göra. Vi har fortsatt leta efter plast utan resultat så nu kommer våra vänner ta med sig när de ankommer på måndag 27 januari. Men vi får ändå uträttat mycket. En ny gasolgrill och ny vacuummaskin är inköpta. Provianteringen fortsätter varje dag. Vårt ersättnings vindinstrument som gick på garantin har kommit. Vi sorterar och gör i ordning för att två personer till skall bo i båten. Vacuumförpackar, frostar av frysen och städar ur kylen mm mm
We are busy. We have continued to look for plastic to no avail so now our friends will bring it with them when they arrive on Monday 27th January. But we still get a lot done. A new gas grill and a new vacuum machine have been purchased. Provisioning continues every day. Our replacement wind instrument that was out of warranty has arrived. We sort and arrange for two more people to live in the boat. Vacuum packs, defrosts the freezer and cleans the fridge, etc

Dagarna går fort och idag lämnar vi Panama City och går till Isla Otoque. En ö mittemellan här och Vista Mar. På lördag skall vi lyfta Vilja. Hon kommer ligga uppe på land några dagar, upp till en vecka. Botten skall rengöras, genomföringar bytas och en hel del annat. Innan vi lämnar mot Galapagos måste vi ha en massa certifikat och bekräftelser på utfört jobb. Det är en hel uppsjö av regler som gäller, och skrämmer. Detta gör att många seglare väljer bort Galapagos. Dessutom är det dyrt att åka dit. Men det är en ”once in a lifetime-upplevelse” och för mig en dröm sedan jag var 6 år.
The days go by fast and today we leave Panama City and go to Isla Otoque. An island between here and Vista Mar. On Saturday we will lift Vilja. She will lie up on land for a few days, up to a week. The bottom must be cleaned, grommets replaced and a lot of other things. Before we leave for the Galapagos, we have to have a lot of certificates and confirmations of work done. There are a whole host of rules that apply, and it’s scary. This causes many sailors to opt out of the Galapagos. In addition, it is expensive to go there. But it is a ”once in a lifetime experience” and for me a dream since I was 6 years old.

Tidig morgon nästa dag och vi åker från Isla Otoque och är på väg mot Vista Mar. Där ligger redan båten Porrima med Peter som vi umgåtts mycket med ända sedan Cuba. Skall bli kul att träffas igen. Och på måndag kommer Marie och Niklas. De skall segla med oss till Galapagos och sedan till Marquesas i Franska Polynesien. Upp till tre månader är de med på Vilja. Det blir en utmaning att vara fyra ombord när det redan är trångt för två. Men genom att verkligen hålla ordning på minsta grej och hela tiden sätta tillbaka allt på sin plats löser vi det. Det måste vi. Niklas har varit med oss tidigare, över Atlanten. Marie är en gemensam vän till oss allihopa som även hon är en duktig och van seglare.
Early morning the next day and we leave Isla Otoque and head for Vista Mar. The boat Porrima is already there with Peter, with whom we spent a lot of time since Cuba. It will be fun to meet again. And on Monday, Marie and Niklas will come. They will sail with us to the Galapagos and then to the Marquesas in French Polynesia. They are with Vilja for up to three months. It becomes a challenge to be four on board when it is already cramped for two. But by really keeping the smallest thing in order and constantly putting everything back in its place, we solve it. We must. Niklas has been with us before, across the Atlantic. Marie is a mutual friend to all of us who is also a skilled and experienced sailor.

Efter en rolig kväll igår som började med drink ombord på Vilja och fortsatte med pizza och dans på marinans restaurang sitter vi nu och väntar på upptagning. Det blåste mycket när vi kom hit igår och tyvärr blåser det mycket även idag. Det kommer bli en utmaning att styra in i fåran där vi skall lyftas med stark vind in snett akterifrån. Det vi väntar på nu är att det skall bli högvatten. Först skall Porrima sjösättas och därefter är det vår tur att tas upp på land.
After a fun evening yesterday that started with drinks on board Vilja and continued with pizza and dancing at the marina’s restaurant, we are now sitting and waiting to be picked up. It was very windy when we got here yesterday and unfortunately it is still very windy today. It will be a challenge to steer into the furrow where we will be lifted with strong wind diagonally from the stern. What we are waiting for now is that there will be high tide. First, Porrima is to be launched and then it is our turn to be taken ashore.
Nu är vi på väg mot upptagning, vinden viner och vågorna går ganska höga med vitt skum. I detta skall vi upp på land. Ombord hos oss är två extra personer. Vi närmar oss där vi skall upp. Vinden blåser starkt snett akterifrån vilket gör att vi måste lägga in backen för att bromsar farten vi annars flyger framåt med. En lina kastas mot oss samtidigt som Vilja vrider på grund av vinden och vi närmar oss muren av stenar på vår babord sida. Jan kan inte backa, med risk att få linan som kastades, i propellern. Det blir hektiskt och panikartat. En båt från marinan assisterar och hjälper till att trycka oss från muren. När det bara är ett fåtal meter kvar är linan i vattnet sträckt och Jan kan, som tur är, lägga in full back. Pust! Vi klarade det utan att krascha in i muren. Men det var riktigt nervöst ett litet tag.
Now we are on the way to haul out, the wind is howling and the waves are quite high with white foam. In this we shall go ashore. On board with us are two extra people. We are approaching where we are going up. The wind blows strongly obliquely from the stern, which means that we have to apply the hill to slow down the speed with which we would otherwise fly forward. A line is thrown towards us at the same time as Vilja twists due to the wind and we approach the wall of stones on our port side. Jan cannot reverse, with the risk of getting the rope that was thrown into the propeller. It gets hectic and panicky. A boat from the marina assists and helps push us off the wall. When there are only a few meters left, the line in the water is taut and Jan can, luckily, put in full reverse. Puff! We made it without crashing into the wall. But it was really nervous for a while.

Äntligen sitter Vilja fast med tre linor som bromsar oss. Med hjälp av dem riktas vi in mot fåran i maskinen vi skall in i. Det är ett svårt och omständigt jobb och totalt tio personal, varav två som dyker i vattnet, jobbar i över två timmar innan vi är på plats och Vilja kan köras upp på land. Ännu några timmar senare är hon färdig uppallad och vi kan klättra upp ombord igen. Nu väntar upp till en vecka med hårt jobb.
Finally, Vilja is stuck with three ropes that slow us down. With the help of them, we are directed towards the groove in the machine we are going into. It is a difficult and cumbersome job and a total of ten personnel, two of whom dive in the water, work for over two hours before we are on site and Vilja can be driven to land. A few hours later, she is fully loaded and we can climb back on board. Now awaits up to a week of hard work.

Arbetet har startat. Vi började tidigt i morse med att skrapa loss havstulpaner och några av de tiotusentals rester av havstulpaner som vi har på båten. Vid inresa till Galapagos måste botten vara helt ren. De kommer ombord långt innan vi kommer fram och då dyker de under båten samt filmar med en undervattenskamera. Allt inne i båten måste också vara skinande rent. I alla fall kök o badrum. Vi måste ha sopsortering med tydliga skyltat mm mm.
The work has started. We started early this morning scraping off barnacles and some of the tens of thousands of barnacle remains that we have on the boat. When entering the Galapagos, the bottom must be completely clean. They come on board long before we arrive and then they dive under the boat and film with an underwater camera. Everything inside the boat must also be sparkling clean. In any case, kitchen and bathroom. We must have garbage sorting with clear signs, etc.

Idag kommer Marie Selfors och Niklas Helgesson till oss. Båda två har stor segelerfarenhet och är dessutom duktiga på båtelektronik och teknik. Det blir ett fantastiskt tillskott och hjälp. Självklart blir det också en utmaning att vara fyra personer som skall få plats på vårat hem, lilla Vilja, som redan är proppfullt med saker. Det är intimt att bo så tätt tillsammans och plats för egentid och eget utrymme blir svårt. Men vi blir fyra som delar på nattpass och arbete. Dessutom kan det bli mycket skratt, spel och härliga samtal.
Marie Selfors and Niklas Helgesson are coming to us today. Both have extensive sailing experience and are also good at boat electronics and technology. It will be a fantastic addition and help. Of course, it will also be a challenge to be four people who will have room in our home, little Vilja, which is already full of things. It is intimate to live so closely together and it becomes difficult to have time and space of your own. But there will be four of us who share the night shift and work. Ååååh, vilken härlig och behaglig segling vi har just nu! Vinden är iofs nästan rakt akterifrån och det går endast i ca tre knop. Men Vilja glider framåt, det är inga vågor o hon lutar inte. Efter att nästan bara ha seglat i tuff sjö eller gått för motor sedan vi lämnade Cartagena är detta helt ljuvligt! Dessutom skiner solen och det är behaglig temperatur strax över trettio grader. Inte fyrtiofem, som tidigare, då svetten rann o vi knappt orkade göra något alls.
Oooooh, what a lovely and pleasant sailing we have now! The wind is also almost directly astern and it only goes at about three knots. But Vilja slides forward, there are no waves and she does not lean. After almost only sailing in rough seas or motoring since we left Cartagena, this is absolutely lovely! In addition, the sun is shining and it is a pleasant temperature just above thirty degrees. Not forty-five, as before, when the sweat was pouring and we could hardly do anything at all.

Vi har lämnat Panama City efter sex nätter där och är nu på väg mot ögruppen Las Perlas. Det skall bli skönt att komma ut till öar igen efter över tio dagar antingen på väg, i hamn eller genom kanalen. Vi har ju även hunnit med att fira jul och nyår och vår 3-årsdag
We have left Panama City after six nights there and are now heading for the Las Perlas archipelago. It will be nice to get out to the islands again after over ten days either on the road, in port or through the canal. We also had time to celebrate Christmas and New Year and our 3rd anniversary
När vi närmar oss ser vi några delfiner som simmar runt, hoppar och leker inte så långt borta från Vilja. Strax därefter kommer vi in i kokande vatten. Det är både strömt och tidvattnet är på väg upp. I Karibien var det knappt något tidvatten, precis som uppe i Skandinavien, men här är det 4 – 5 meters skillnad. Något vi behöver tänka på både när vi går strandnära och vid ankring. Strandnära då grund som syns vid lågvatten är totalt ute ur sikt vid högvatten. Och vid ankring då vi vill ha minst 3-4 gånger djupet ute, på vår ankarkätting, så vi får räkna på djupet vid högvatten.
As we approach, we see some dolphins swimming around, jumping and playing not too far from Vilja. Soon after, we enter boiling water. It is both current and the tide is rising. In the Caribbean there was hardly any tide, just like up in Scandinavia, but here there is a 4 – 5 meter difference. Something we need to think about both when we go close to the beach and at anchor. Close to the beach, the ground that is visible at low tide is totally out of sight at high tide. And when anchoring when we want at least 3-4 times the depth outside, on our anchor chain, so we have to count on the depth at high tide.

Vi ligger i sundet mellan de nordliga öarna Isla Chapera och Isla Mogo Mogo. Här ligger tre andra båtar förutom oss. Sedan vi kom hit har Vilja snurrat runt 180 grader så vi ligger precis tvärtom mot vad vi låg när vi kom hit. Vi har inte sjösatt jollen ännu utan det blir imorgon. Vi var uppe tidigt idag för att komma iväg strax efter gryningen så vi inte riskerade att lägga till i mörker ännu en gång. Nu står maten på spisen. Idag blir det köttbullar med potatis, kantarellsås och Lingonsylt. Otroligt lyxigt i den värld vi lever långt från svenska matvaror. Det känns svalt nu, nästan lite kyligt. Jag har tagit på mig tunna byxor o en långärmad topp. Tittar på termometern ute i sittbrunnen. Den visar 27.8 grader….Allt är relativt. Vi har levt i en enorm hetta med över 40 grader så detta känns jätteskönt.
We are located in the strait between the northern islands of Isla Chapera and Isla Mogo Mogo. Here are three other boats besides us. Since we got here, Vilja has turned around 180 degrees so we are exactly the opposite of where we were when we got here. We haven’t launched the dinghy yet, but that will be tomorrow. We were up early today to get going just after dawn so we didn’t risk adding in the dark yet again. Now the food is on the stove. Today it will be meatballs with potatoes, chanterelle sauce and lingonberry jam. Incredibly luxurious in the world we live in far from Swedish food products. It feels cool now, almost a little chilly. I have put on thin pants and a long-sleeved top. Looking at the thermometer out in the cockpit. It shows 27.8 degrees….Everything is relative. We have been living in an enormous heat with over 40 degrees so this feels great.

Vi sitter framme på däck i eftermiddagen med vin o snacks. Runt oss kluckar havet av ström och tidvatten. Det är ett så rogivande och underbart ljud. Här ligger sex andra segelbåtar. Alla de andra har fören mot vinden medans vi ligger helt tvärt om. Vi funderar på orsaken…fem av de andra är katamaraner och rör sig annorlunda medans den enda andra enskroviga båten ligger lite längre från sundet, det måste vara orsaken. Vilja ligger med fören mot strömmen medan de andra ligger med fören mot vinden. Skönt att det fläktar i sittbrunnen för ovanlighetens skull.
We sit out front on the deck in the afternoon with wine and snacks. Around us, the sea is churning with currents and tides. It is such a soothing and wonderful sound. Six other sailboats are located here. All the others have the bow to the wind, while we are completely opposite. We are thinking about the reason…five of the others are catamarans and move differently while the only other monohull is a little further from the strait, that must be the reason. Vilja lies with the bow against the current while the others lie with the bow against the wind. Nice that there is a fan in the cockpit for the unusual sake.

Det är helg och under dagen idag har det varit över tio motorbåtar här med festglada och badsugna människor ombord. Det har varit dunkadunka-musik, skratt och rop. Skönt nu när det är tyst igen och det endast är kluckandet som hörs.
It’s the weekend and during the day today there have been over ten motorboats here with party-happy and bath-hungry people on board. There has been thump thump music, laughter and shouts. Great now that it’s quiet again and only the clucking can be heard.
Andra dagen med strålande sol, inte så vanligt här i Panama där det är mycket regn och åska. Men nu mullrar det ordentligt och in över bergen i fastlandet Panama är det kolsvarta moln. Tror de kommer ta sig ut hit till oss under kvällen och natten. Så det är bäst att passa på och njuta fram tills dess

Vi har jobbat en hel del med och på båten de senaste dagarna. Städar och röjer, som vanligt. Jag blir tokig på att inte ha ordning i båten med var sak på sin plats. Men mycket har blivit gjort. Jan har börjat byta ut träpluggar i teakdäcket och igår limmade vi fast årklykor o handtag av gummi på jollen som lossnat för längesedan. Överdrag till sittbrunnsdynor o sittkuddar har blivit tvättade, utsidan skrovet tvättat igen från påväxt av alger o långhalsar. Bloggen och foton tar ju sin tid och vi har, tyvärr, upptäckt småkryp i några av våra mjöl- och lins- och bönpåsar. Så nu har vi gått igenom varje påse grundligt, slängt en hel del i havet, tvättat ur skåp o väskor, sprayat mm mm. Så nu är det bara att hålla tummarna att vi blivit av med det. Noga tillsyn framöver och några skåp i andra delar av båten skall gås igenom. Så allt är inte paradis hela tiden utan det är en hel del jobb.
We have worked a lot with and on the boat in recent days. Cleaning and clearing, as usual. I’m going crazy for not having order in the boat with everything in its place. Jan has started to replace the wooden plugs in the teak deck and yesterday we glued rubber grips and handles on the dinghy that came off a long time ago. Covers for cockpit cushions and seat cushions have been washed, the outside has been washed again from algae growth. The blog and photos take time and we have, unfortunately, discovered small bugs in some of our flour, lentil and bean bags. So now we have gone through each bag thoroughly, thrown a lot into the sea, washed out of cupboards and bags, sprayed, etc. So now we just have to keep our fingers crossed that we got rid of it. Careful supervision in the future and some lockers in other parts of the boat must be checked. So everything is not paradise all the time but it is a lot of work.

Vi ligger kvar här och njuter. Idag är det fyra dagar sedan vi kom hit till Mogo Mogo. Vi tar jollen in till stranden på ön Chapera. Passar på nu när vi har ön helt för oss själva. Det är lite av ett Robinson Cruzoe liv. Vi fortsätter med jollen till ön Mogo Mogo. Vilken vacker plats! Här passar jag på att bada i det smaragdgröna havet. Det är vindstilla och ingen ström i den SV-liga viken. Såååå härligt!
We stay here and enjoy. Today is four days since we arrived here at Mogo Mogo. We take the dinghy into the beach on the island of Chapera. Fits in now that we have the island all to ourselves. It’s a bit of a Robinson Crusoe life. We continue with the dinghy to the island of Mogo Mogo. What a beautiful place! Here I take the opportunity to bathe in. the emerald sea. There is no wind and no current in the SW-facing bay. Sooo lovely!

Det är ganska tidigt på morgonen och vi beger oss iväg mot ön Pedro Gonzales, längre söderut. Plötsligt omringas vi av en flock delfiner varav en mamma med ett barn. Vilken lycka! De simmar med oss och leker runt Vilja. Undrar om de är medvetna om att vi tittar på dem? Delfiner runt båten är bland det mest underbara som finns. Vi släpper allt vi har för händer och njuter av synen. Tur att vi har en autopilot som styr för oss
It is quite early in the morning and we head off towards the island of Pedro Gonzales, further south. Suddenly we are surrounded by a pod of dolphins, one of which is a mother with a child. What happiness! They swim with us and play around Vilja. Wonder if they are aware we are watching them? Dolphins around the boat are among the most wonderful things there is. We drop everything we have in our hands and enjoy the view. Lucky we have an autopilot to steer for us

Så lyxigt med en dag total semester. Bara koppla av, bada, lyssna på bok, njuta av utsikten och bada i pool! Vi har kommit till den privata ön San José och i en av vikarna ligger en resort dit vi är välkomna att njuta alla faciliteter. Visst vi betalat 10 dollar var men är välkomna tillbaka. Utsikten är slående vacker och bubbelpoolen sååå lockande härlig. Vi unnar oss inte många saker i vårt ändå priviligierade liv men idag njuter vi av denna lyx. Glittrande hav så långt ögat kan nå, palmer i förgrunden, en infinitipool, vin i glaset två Tukaner och färgglada papegojor som flyger över oss. Kan inte säga annat än att livet är härligt
So luxurious with a day total vacation. Just relax, swim, listen to a book, enjoy the view and swim in the pool! We have arrived at the private island of San José and in one of the bays is a resort where we are welcome to enjoy all the facilities. Of course we paid 10 dollars each but are welcome back. The view is strikingly beautiful and the hot tub so invitingly lovely. We don’t treat ourselves to many things in our still privileged life but today we enjoy this luxury. Sparkling sea as far as the eye can see, palm trees in the foreground, an infinity pool, wine in the glass, two Toucans and colorful parrots flying above us. Can’t say anything other than that life is wonderful

Det börjar mörkna och den svenska segelbåten, Kerpa från Stockholm, är på väg in i viken. Vi möttes i Guna Yala och nu möts vi igen. De kommer över till oss på en gin & tonic i solnedgången och vi umgås ett par timmar innan vi båda behöver laga till dagens middag. Vi träffas även nästa dag och nu åker vi in till resorten och njuter i jacuzzin tillsammans. Imorgon börjar de sin segling mot Marquesas, en dryg månads segling utan att se varken land o troligen inte någon båt.
It’s getting dark and the Swedish sailboat, Kerpa from Stockholm, is heading into the bay. We met in Guna Yala and now we meet again. They come over to our place for a gin & tonic at sunset and we hang out for a couple of hours before we both have to cook for today’s dinner. We also meet the next day and now we go to the resort and enjoy the jacuzzi together. Tomorrow they start their sail towards the Marquesas, a good month’s sail without seeing either land or probably no boat.

Själva väljer vi att stanna kvar några dagar. Vi har inte bråttom och det finns flera stränder att utforska. Jag fascineras över färgerna på sanden och krabbornas grävande ner i sanden för att gömma sig. Här är inte lika fantastiskt som i Guna Yala men det har sin charm. Och det är betydligt lugnare. Just nu tror vi att det endast är 4 – 5 segelbåtar totalt i hela Las Perlas. Vattnet är klart och avsvsalkande, lite kallare än i Karibien, stränderna kritvita och nästan helt utan uppblåst skräp och det är härligt att ibland få vara ensamma på en hel ö.
We ourselves choose to stay for a few days. We are not in a hurry and there are several beaches to explore. I am fascinated by the colors of the sand and the crabs burrowing into the sand to hide. Here is not as amazing as in Guna Yala but it has its charm. And it is much quieter. Right now we think there are only 4 – 5 sailboats in total in the whole of Las Perlas. The water is clear and desalicizing, a little colder than in the Caribbean, the beaches are chalk white and almost completely free of bloated rubbish and it is wonderful to sometimes be alone on an entire island.
